This Tule Elk bull popped up onto a dune to challenge another bull. The red plant, while striking, is unfortunately invasive ice plant.

There’s another invasive species in Point Reyes, and this one is even worse: politically connected interests who’ve managed to keep wild Tule Elk enclosed in a water and nutrient poor section of the park to prevent them from competing with commercial ranches. Today is the last day to tell the National Park Service it’s time for Point Reyes to live up to its mandated mission of natural preservation by freeing the elk:
